Love, Romance & Feng Shui – Let's Jump on the Love Bus!

Could your home be influencing your love life? Discover how traditional Feng Shui can help create an environment that supports love, romance and meaningful relationships.

Whether you're looking for love, hoping to attract a new relationship or wanting to strengthen the connection you already have, your home could be an interesting place to start.

In traditional Feng Shui, certain areas of your home are associated with relationships, marriage and personal connections. By understanding these areas and how energy moves through your home, you can make more informed choices about your environment.

So, let's jump on the Love Bus and explore how Feng Shui can support your relationship goals!

1. The Southwest: Your Feng Shui love and relationship area

When looking at the Bagua map, the Southwest sector of your home is associated with love, relationships and marriage.

This is one of the first areas I would recommend examining if you want to focus on relationship Feng Shui.

Start by looking at your floor plan. Is the Southwest area complete, or is there a missing section?

In traditional Feng Shui, a missing Southwest sector may be interpreted as an area requiring attention when considering relationship energy.

You should also look at what is happening in this part of your home.

For example:

  • Is there a bathroom or toilet in the Southwest?

  • Is the area cluttered or neglected?

  • Is it being used as a storage space?

  • Does it feel dark, uncomfortable or uninviting?

A bathroom in this sector is traditionally considered something to pay attention to. Rather than worrying, look at how you can improve the space, keep it clean and maintain good energy flow.

2. How to activate the Southwest with Feng Shui

The Southwest is associated with the Earth element.

This gives us some lovely opportunities to introduce suitable decorative elements into this area.

Consider incorporating:

  • Earth materials: Earthenware, ceramic pots, decorative jars and natural stone.

  • Natural crystals: Crystals are associated with the Earth element and can make beautiful decorative additions.

  • Fresh flowers: A lovely way to bring life and freshness into your home.

  • Lighting: Bright lights and candles introduce the Fire element, which supports Earth in the Five Element cycle.

  • Couples' artwork: Pictures of happy couples or families can symbolise togetherness and connection.

A multifaceted crystal hung near a window or light source can also create beautiful reflections around your room.

One thing I would avoid is dead or dried flowers, as well as decorative driftwood.

You may have heard of placing Mandarin ducks in the Southwest to encourage marital happiness. This is a traditional Feng Shui symbol, although the popular claim that Mandarin ducks mate for life isn't actually correct!

The important thing is to create a space that feels welcoming, balanced and supportive of the relationships you want to nurture.

3. Your personal Life Gua directions and love luck

Now let's take things a little further.

Your personal Life Gua is another important part of traditional Feng Shui.

Unlike simply looking at the Bagua map, your Life Gua gives you four auspicious and four challenging personal directions.

Two directions are particularly interesting when it comes to relationships:

Love and Relationships direction

This direction is associated with attracting people and opportunities into your life. It can be used when focusing on building meaningful connections and developing relationships.

Personal Magnetism direction

This direction is associated with your ability to connect with others, strengthen personal relationships and develop connections in both your personal and professional life.

Once you have calculated your Life Gua, identify where these directions fall within your home.

Ask yourself:

  • Are these areas cluttered?

  • Is the energy blocked by furniture or storage?

  • Are you using these spaces regularly?

  • Could they benefit from a little attention?

Open the windows, refresh the space and allow Chi to circulate freely.

And here's an interesting idea: try spending some time in one these directions while you're using online dating websites or chatting with someone new.

It's a simple way to incorporate your personal Feng Shui into everyday life.

4. The 2026 Annual Flying Stars and relationships

For those who want to explore Feng Shui in more depth, the Annual Flying Stars provide another layer of information.

These stars move around the home each year, bringing different energetic influences to each sector.

In 2026, there are three stars worth paying particular attention to when looking at relationships.

Star 9 – Southeast: Joy and happy occasions

Star 9 is associated with happiness, celebrations, positive developments and future prosperity.

In 2026, Star 9 occupies the Southeast sector.

If you and your partner have been feeling a little out of sync, you may want to examine this area of your home.

If your layout allows, you could consider spending more time in this sector or using it as a bedroom.

You could also look at the Southeast area of your existing bedroom and consider whether it would benefit from being refreshed.

Star 3 – The argument star

Have you noticed more disagreements or difficulties communicating with your partner?

Star 3 is traditionally associated with arguments, conflict and disagreements.

In 2026, it occupies the West sector.

If this star falls in your bedroom, it is worth examining how you use that space.

Star 3 belongs to the Wood element, and Fire is traditionally used to control its energy.

A suitable Fire element influence could include lighting a tea light for an hour each day.

The aim is to manage the challenging influence rather than unnecessarily activate it.

Star 4 – Northeast: Romance and third-party influences

Star 4 is associated with romance, relationships, education and creativity.

However, when examining relationship Feng Shui, it is also a star that deserves some attention.

In 2026, Star 4 occupies the Northeast.

Star 4 belongs to the Wood element, and excessive Water influence can strengthen Wood.

In some traditional Flying Star interpretations, an overactivated Star 4, particularly when combined with certain external or internal water features, can be associated with third-party relationship complications.

Look at the Northeast of your home:

  • Is there an aquarium?

  • Do you have an internal water feature?

  • Is there a lake, river or pond nearby?

  • Is there excessive activity in this area?

If you have external water influences, consider how exposed this sector is and whether you can reduce unnecessary activation.

Remember, Flying Star analysis is more detailed than simply looking at one annual star. The property's natal chart and other surrounding influences also matter.

5. Your bedroom: The most important room for relationships?

Your bedroom is somewhere I would always recommend paying attention to when looking at relationship Feng Shui.

After all, this is where you rest, recharge and spend time with your partner.

Here are a few things to consider:

Use favourable Life Gua directions

Where practical, consider your personal favourable directions when positioning your bed. If you share a bedroom, you will need to consider both partners.

Be mindful of mirrors

Mirrors are traditionally associated with Yang energy. If you have a mirror reflecting your bed, consider covering it at night or repositioning it if possible.

Avoid water features

I wouldn't recommend water features in the bedroom. Apart from traditional Feng Shui considerations, the noise and movement can disturb your sleep.

Keep your bedroom calm

Avoid unnecessary clutter, excessive storage and anything that makes the room feel unsettled.

Your bedroom should be somewhere you can relax and enjoy a peaceful environment together.

6. Start with your home, but don't forget yourself!

One of the most interesting things about traditional Feng Shui is that it allows us to look at our environment in several different ways.

You can start with the Bagua map, explore your personal Life Gua directions and then introduce Flying Star analysis for a more detailed understanding.

You don't need to make dramatic changes or spend a fortune on decorative enhancements.

Sometimes the best starting point is simply understanding your home, identifying the areas that need attention and making thoughtful changes.

And remember, Feng Shui isn't a substitute for communication, trust and effort in a relationship. Think of it as another way to create an environment that supports the life and relationships you want to build.
